Kamel Shibbani, MD, FPICS
Kamel Shibbani, MD, is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Pediatrics-Cardiology and Director of Research for Pediatric Cardiology in the Stead Family Department of Pediatrics at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine.
Dr. Shibbani earned his BS in Biology and his MD from the American University of Beirut in Lebanon, where he also completed his pediatric internship at the American University of Beirut Medical Center. He went on to complete his pediatrics residency and pediatric cardiology fellowship at the University of Iowa, followed by an advanced fellowship in pediatric interventional cardiology at Rady Children's Hospital, University of California San Diego. He is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in General Pediatrics.
Dr. Shibbani's early research background focused on the genetics of congenital heart disease. His current work centers on translational research and device development, with a clinical and research emphasis on transcatheter and hybrid interventions for congenital heart disease, including PDA closure in premature infants, PDA stenting in ductal-dependent circulations, transcatheter pulmonary valve replacement, and outcomes of early post-surgical cardiac catheterization. His work has appeared in the Journal of the American Heart Association, Pediatric Cardiology, Catheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, and the European Journal of Pediatrics. He is an active member of the PICS Society.
