Alejandro R Peirone, MD

Dr Alejandro R Peirone, MD, was born in Córdoba, Argentina on February 28th, 1970. He was graduated from the National University of Córdoba in 1993. He trained in Clinical Pediatrics at the Private University Hospital of Córdoba and moved to Toronto, Canada in 1998 to train in Pediatric Cardiology and Pediatric Interventional Cardiology at the Hospital for Sick Children, University of Toronto, under the mentorship of Dr. R. Freedom and Dr. Lee Benson. He is married and father of two children. Since 2003 he is practicing back in Córdoba, Argentina where currently is the Head of the Cardiology Department at the Children's Hospital of Córdoba as well as the Director of the Cardiac Catheterizathion Laboratoy for Children and Adults with Congenital Heart Disease at the Private University Hospital of Córdoba.

Dr. Peirone leads both hospitals Cardiac Catheterization Labs, while also fostering innovative research with heart valves, lymphatic procedures and new devices, championing the translation techniques into patient care. He has participated in and led national trials of innovative device treatments for children. On the other hand, he has presented more than 130 abstracts at Argentinian meetings and more than 90 at International events. He has delivered more than 240 lectures in Argentina and more than 75 at International events. He has published over 33 papers in Argentinian Medical Journals, over 65 papers in International Journals and more than 15 book chapters in specific congenital heart lesions and techniques for interventional treatment. He has trained and/or proctored several doctors in Argentina and LATAM, mainly on the use of occlusion devices, stents and heart valves. In the last decade he has participated in the organization of SOLACI (Latin American Society of Interventional Cardiology) meetings in South America and is an opinion leader at the Congenital Heart Disease Section of SOLACI. Finally, he has been a very active participant in the PICS meetings giving lectures and performing live-cases from Córdoba, Argentina in several editions.
